Leo Bellino had his first dog in Italy in 1962. In 1977 living in Canada he imported German Shepherds, Dito & Bronc. Both were excellent family pets and guard dogs and went on to work with the Toronto Police Force. In 1978 he moved to Loretto and began to study the dog breed more intensely. His love, passion and knowledge for the German Shepherd Dog was inspiring to those who knew him and many others benefitted from this love as he would share his thoughts, ideas, ways, and philosophies that he built for himself. He encouraged and took many under his wing and he was always generous with his time, counsel, and a funny story. He was a true professional who derived great satisfaction from sharing his wealth of experience and knowledge with everyone. He appreciated the history of the sport, valued long-time enthusiasts, mentored our next generation of shepherd fanciers and enthusiastically supported Junior Showmanship.

On a personal note Leo was a mentor to so many of us personally and in the Dog world. He was a teacher who shared his experiences and knowledge and loved long conversations and debates. He was a perfectionist in life and with his dogs.
